After school did a secretarial course and followed this up with a public relations course - also did a Life Line Course. Worked for Management at Old Mutual Head office for 5 years and thereafter as Assistant Secretary to the CEO of BP Southern Africa until 1986 when I left to have a baby. My daughter aged 24, completed her studies at the University of Cape Town in 2009. I joined the amazing ASF team in 1994 as Sponsor Secretary, where I am primarily responsible for liaising with and managing our database of generous sponsors. I have watched ASF grow in leaps and bounds under the leadership of Margaret Elsworth and would like to see it continue to flourish under the guidance of our new director, Eliza James. My other great passion is golf – and a hole in one still eludes me!
I joined the ASF in 2003 as Accounts Manager where my primary task is to manage the full accounting function. I fondly recall how “back in those days” the thousands of payments made to our schools were all still done manually. With my accounting background, I was able to implement payments on a computerised system that allowed for a more streamlined process – thank heavens for technology! I am passionate about the ASF and the work it does and look forward to the organization’s continued growth.
FET Bursary Manager
I am a past bursar of the ASF and come from a small Karoo Town called Beaufort West. I completed my National Diploma in Business Management through ACCESS Trust. I started working for the ASF in 2005 where I was employed as the School Bursary Secretary and later promoted to Student Advisory Officer. In 2010 I started assisting the FET Bursary Manager and in 2013 was given the opportunity to take over the management of the FET portfolio. My portfolio requires that I present Student Support Workshops at FET colleges, which gives me a further opportunity to directly influence and guide our bursars. My message for the youth out there: always program your mind for success and never give-up, if one dream dies then move on to another and always be happy with who you are!
