We work to ensure our partnerships offer shared value, aligning with your company's CSI objectives while providing opportunities for brand association, employee engagement, and public recognition of your commitment.
At the African Scholars' Fund , our work is powered by the unwavering belief in the transformative power of education. For over 50 years, we have been privileged to witness incredible stories of resilience and achievement, and none of this would be possible without the profound generosity of our individual donors.
You are more than just donors; you are an essential part of the ASF Family – longstanding, loyal, and deeply committed. Your care and continued support keep the heartbeat of this organization going, ensuring that promising young schoolchildren from homes with limited resources can complete their secondary education with dignity.
Why Your Support Matters
Many of our long-standing donors share a common motivation: the deep value they place on education and their understanding of the challenges faced by many young people in South Africa. As one donor beautifully put it, "Education is the greatest gift to a young person."
Your contributions directly impact the lives of our bursars by:
Alleviating financial pressure: Providing funds for basic school needs, such as uniforms, shoes, and books.
Encouraging personal development: Through ongoing communication and Life Skills Sessions, we motivate learners and encourage personal growth, leading to more focused and committed students.
Guiding future paths: Your support extends to resources like the Grade 9 Subject Choices Advice Booklet, the Grade 11 Career Guidance Workbook, and the NSFAS Online Application Guide, helping students make informed decisions about their academic and career futures.
Equipping for success: The Grade 12 One Year Computer Literacy Programme equips learners with essential skills to better navigate and succeed at institutions of higher learning or venture immediately into the 4th industrial revolution world of work.
Stories of Impact – Because of You
We are constantly humbled by the courage and determination of our bursars, and immensely proud of their achievements. Many have gone on to achieve remarkable success, with some even pursuing doctoral degrees and becoming donors themselves.
"Knowing that you do not have to worry about schooling needs goes a long way in improving performance. I am a living testament."
"It is a blessing to give more than to receive."
These powerful testimonials are a testament to the real difference you make in individual lives and, ultimately, in building a stronger nation.
Our Promise to You
We take immense pride in our careful administration and the diligent way in which your donations are utilized. Our commitment is to ensure that every cent is well spent, directly supporting our bursars. We are transparent about our finances, with audited statements available upon request.
The ASF's journey for over 50 years has been one of continuous dedication, and we are deeply grateful for your loyalty and steadfast support. We look forward to continuing this vital work together, transforming young lives and effecting continued positive change in our country.
You can learn more about how your support makes a difference by exploring:
Despite the long drives over challenging stretches of road, we managed to visit all the areas we planned to cover i.e. Uitenhage, East London, Umtata, Mount Frere and Bizana. It was a wonderfully worthwhile visit – the joy, the excitement and the warmth we were received with at the schools we visited affirmed that indeed “the purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better for our fellow-man, for it is truly in the giving that we receive”.
ASF Learners from Iingcingazethu High School in Ceres; Masakheke High School in Robertson and Noorder Paarl High School were in attendance and left elated with their newly acquired means of transport to and from school. Our relationship with David, who hails from the USA has since grown stronger and we thank Life Choices for the introduction. The collaboration continues to bring much hope and joy to our learners.
This book has allowed our bursars to share their stories and have their voices heard – it is both heart wrenching and inspiring at the same time. The initial lockdown was envisaged to last but a mere three weeks, but due to the continued rise in infections, we experienced further extensions and even stricter lockdown regulations.
